Planning & Zoning

The Department manages all applications for subdivision and land development, zoning permits, and any work being done in the Borough Historic District. If you need help understanding the Borough's zoning code, you can discuss your plans with the Borough's Zoning Officer. We strongly recommend you hire an experienced team of professionals to help you through the process of subdivision and land development.

When do I need a Zoning review?

The Zoning code regulates how you can use a property and where you can place a building, shed, parking areas, or signs. Zoning is organized according to districts where all properties are regulated the same way. It's a good idea to check whether you need a zoning permit as a first step to doing a building project at your home or business.

In addition to a zoning permit, most properties located in the historic downtown require approval from the Historic Architecture Review Board before you obtain a building permit. You can look up what rules apply to your property in the Zoning Code or the Zoning Map Lookup app.
